Questions Raised Over 108 Ambulance Services at GMC Udhampur; Patient Waits Four Hours

Udhampur, September 9:Serious questions have been raised over the functioning of the 108 ambulance service at Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, after a patient from the Jib Pali area reportedly had to wait for nearly four hours for an ambulance late Tuesday night.

According to the patient’s family, despite waiting for several hours, the required ambulance facility was not made available. The family subsequently contacted District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sumeet Magotra for assistance. On receiving the information, Magotra reached GMC Udhampur along with party workers and met the patient’s family to ascertain the details of the matter. He also spoke with the hospital administration and the Medical Superintendent, urging them to make an ambulance available immediately considering the patient’s condition.

Following the intervention, an ambulance was arranged and the patient was shifted for further medical care and referral.Speaking on the issue, Sumeet Magotra said that no one visits a hospital willingly and that patients and their families are already under immense stress. “For a needy family to wait for hours for a basic facility like an ambulance is extremely unfortunate.

Timely healthcare and emergency transportation must be available to every patient, irrespective of their financial condition,” he said.Magotra urged the hospital administration and concerned authorities to strengthen the 108 ambulance service and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future. The patient’s family and others present at the hospital expressed gratitude to Magotra for reaching the spot and extending assistance when they needed it.
