As Army Women’s Welfare Association marks its Diamond Jubilee, the milestone celebrates a journey of compassion, resilience and a continuing commitment to the well-being and empowerment of women, children and families across the Northern Command with a series of welfare, outreach and community initiatives connected with the Defence Forces.In Northern Command, where soldiers shoulder demanding responsibilities in challenging areas, families are unable to stay together. Patience, courage and composure of families become a quiet source of strength. Women, play an important role in holding their families together.
Addressing these unique challenges faced by our families one of our initiative Project Milaap helps bridge this gap. Through this project, efforts are made to remain connected with families living in far-flung areas, ensuring that they receive timely information and remain aware of welfare measures and support schemes available to them by digital means.A special place in this journey is held by the Veer Naris, whose courage, dignity and resilience remain deeply inspiring. As part of the outreach initiative Veer Naris & Veer Matas from Udhampur and far-flung areas were honoured and felicitated on this milestone celebration.
They continue to receive support aimed at their well-being, dignity and self-reliance. Standing by them remains a shared responsibility and an enduring commitment of Northern Command Regional AWWA.Over six decades, AWWA has evolved with changing times and aspirations. Alongside family welfare, its focus encompasses education, skill development, entrepreneurship and self-reliance. In Northern Command, eighteen Vocational Training Centres and six Army Skill Training Centres provide women opportunities to acquire practical skills and explore avenues for employment and financial independence.
AWWA also places strong emphasis on the education and holistic development of children. The focus extends beyond academic achievement to nurturing confidence and all-rounded growth and personality development of our families. At the same time, attention is given to the physical and mental well-being of families through healthcare, counselling and other support initiatives.
The event culminated in a grand program at Chinar Complex, Udhampur, where Mrs. Shinei Sharma, Regional President AWWA, presented the Polaris Awards to outstanding beneficiaries and urged members to contribute to community welfare and nation-building.The 60-year milestone is therefore not merely a celebration of the past, but a reaffirmation of AWWA’s vision for the future creating opportunities for women to learn, grow and become self-reliant, while ensuring that families and children continue to receive the care and support they need.
As AWWA looks ahead, its journey continues with the same spirit of care and service, embracing new possibilities for women and strengthening the well-being of families across the Defence Forces community.
